Plano Balloon Festival
Sept. 19-21, 2008| Calling all Hams!
We are once again supporting the Plano Balloon Festival on September 19th, 20th and 21st. The event festival is held at Oak Point Park and information regarding the festival can be found: http://www.planoballoonfest.org/ Plano Amateur Radio Klub and other amateurs from the area have been supporting this event for over 20 years. The primary reason is to provide communication and logistical support for the balloonists and organizers of the event. With the event spanning three days, it requires a rather significant effort to coordinate and administer. Operators are required in two general categories, Field and Recovery Operations. We also provide weather monitoring support and act as liaisons to many of the Public Safety agencies supporting the event. In the past we have also used this event to deploy new technology and techniques to validate their operational capabilities. For more information and to SIGN-UP, please visit: To get an idea of what to expect and operational procedures for the recovery portion of the event: We look forward to seeing you this year! |
It's CoCoBEST Time Again!

It's CoCo BEST time.
The game for 2008 is "JUST PLANE CRAZY". If you would like to preview the movie, just go to: http://www.bestinc.org/MVC/. Under "OUR MISSION" you will find the BEST 2008 Preview movie.
This year, CoCoBEST will be at Ereckson Middle School in Allen Texas on Oct 18, 2008. Starting time is 0730 and the contest will end at 1600. Ten to twelve Amateur Radio Operators will be needed then to help with the CoCoBEST game.
We also need both engineers and non-engineers to be Coaches and Mentors during the program. If you are over 24 and would like to be a Coach or be a Mentor, e-mail Richard M. Phillips, Sr. at kb5ybq@arrl.net. Participation of Coaches and Mentors spans the entire CoCoBEST program. The short time is 6 weeks and the long time could be up to 10 weeks. All of the CoCo BEST schools are in Collin County.
The Regional Texas Game Day will on Nov. 15, 2008 at UNT.
